Boosting Your QuokkaNet Internet Speeds
If your QuokkaNet connection feels slower than expected, don’t stress — we’ll guide you through some simple steps to help pinpoint the issue and get things running smoothly again.

1. Plug In with an Ethernet Cable
Start here. Connect a computer directly to your modem/router using an Ethernet (network) cable. If your laptop doesn’t have an Ethernet port, you may need a USB-to-Ethernet adapter.

Why this matters: A direct wired connection bypasses WiFi and helps rule out wireless interference. This gives us a true reading of your connection speed.

2. Run a Speed Test
Head over to speedtest.net and run a test while connected via Ethernet.

Afterwards, you can switch back to WiFi and test again to compare results.

If your Ethernet test shows you're getting your plan speed, that’s great news — it means your QuokkaNet service is working as expected.
However, if speeds drop when other devices are connected or when using WiFi, the issue is likely within your local network — not the internet service itself.

3. Isolation Test: One Device Only
Try this next step to confirm:

  • Disconnect everything from your network except one device, plugged in directly via Ethernet
  • Disable WiFi, unplug switches or extenders, and turn off standby devices like consoles or smart TVs
  • Run another speed test
Getting your full plan speed now?
This confirms that your QuokkaNet service is working correctly, and the issue lies with devices or setup inside your home or business.

So, What Now?
If you’re getting your full speed in isolation, but things slow down with multiple devices connected or when using WiFi, you may need to:

  • Engage a local IT technician to help diagnose internal network problems
  • Adjust settings on high-usage apps like OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud, or cloud backups to limit bandwidth usage
  • Use Quality of Service (QoS) settings (if supported by your router) to prioritise important traffic
  • Ensure older networking gear (like switches, powerline adapters, or old routers) aren’t bottlenecking your speed
4. When Your Needs Outgrow Your Plan
If your household or office regularly streams, games, works from home, or syncs cloud files — your current speed tier might not be enough.

Need more speed?
Check if a higher speed plan is available at your address — it could make a big difference to your day-to-day experience.
You can contact our team or log in to the QuokkaNet Portal to see what upgrades are available.

5. Still Having Trouble?
If you've tested everything and you're still not getting the speeds you expect — especially via Ethernet in isolation — get in touch with us. Our friendly support team can run further diagnostics and raise a fault with the network if needed.
